Folio 366: Commissioner Richard Beach, Portsmouth. Report from the messenger sent to Poole, regarding the oakum, resin and oil available at Fareham and Southampton. Asks for directions concerning the purchase of these stores. Asks for a supply of money, or the work of the yard will stop, and to pay for the supply of masts. He sent to Spithead to see if the hospital ship was there and to deliver the letter to Mr. Crow. Asks which ships are designed for the West Indies and which for the Mediterranean, so they can plan the work and not to be vague, as Samuel Pepys used to be. Report on the progress on the Exeter, Rupert, Advice, Jersey, Duke and Resolution. Is sending a demand for the cleaning and fitting of the Warspite, Plymouth, Oxford and St. David. He has ordered a survey on the Mary Rose by the Carpenters of the Royal Charles, Royal James, St. George and Vanguard. He does not think Mr. Hawkins will comply with his contract.
