ADM 106/473/368
1695 Nov 21
Folio 368: Nicholas Manooch, Rye. Has received the order for Seamen's bedding, and will process 50 printed orders to be sent to the ships for the information of Seamen and Officers. On Tuesday, Captain Elliot of the Charles galley sent a ketch in, loaded with tobacco and salt, that he had taken from a French fleet, which consisted of about 40 sails, somewhere near Cape la Hague. He took a pink at the same time and has gone to Dover. Chiefly the Captain is gone to view the rest of that fleet. The 16 men and a Mate, who came in with the ketch, have no subsistence and are being maintained ashore. If the ship does not come in soon, it is planned to get the men aboard the Maidstone, which is cruising the coast and take care of the pinnace till the Charles galley arrives.
