2806. Clinton to Germain. Charlestown, South Carolina. Separate. Questions of the division of the spoil at Charlestown are referred to His Majesty. From the past correspondence, the navy expect a full half of the produce of the whole, which considering the difference of numbers in officers and men would render the portion of individuals in their several corresponding ranks, four times greater in one service than in the other. This when the joint operation was a siege where the army must surely have had their full share of duty appears rather too unfavourable a division towards them.
