FR 11
1988-2000
The files in this series consist of documents created either by the Chief Executive's Department or other departments within the Legal Aid Board. The files concern the main preoccupation of the Chief Executive: to ensure that advice, assistance and representation are available within the framework of the Legal Aid Act 1988. This includes responsibility for assessing and paying bills from suppliers of civil legal aid work and criminal work in magistrates courts.
All departments within the Legal Aid Board will at some time have prepared papers for the Chief Executive: e.g. Chief Executives Department; Policy and Legal Department; Press Office; Secretariat; Finance Department; Information Systems Department; Human Resources Department; Supplier Development Group; Investigations Department; Audit Department; Civil Contracting Team and Regional Offices.
A large proportion of these files were accidentally destroyed in error by the Legal Services Commission in July 2004.
The files were originally arranged by subject. No alphanumeric sequence was applied during active use by the CEO. At the point of review, the prefix CEO was added and a numerical sequence was applied to these subject ordered records.
