Description

Prisoner name: John Hayes.

Court and date of trial: Spring Assizes at Taunton [Somerset], 1826.

Crime: Assault on William Ravin [William Raymond] in the execution of his duty in levying a distress on the goods of John Hayes.

Initial sentence: Imprisonment until a fine of £5 is paid.

Annotated (outcome): Recommend his discharge at the end of the present month.

Petitioner: John Hayes, the prisoner.

Grounds for clemency: A wife and six children solely dependent on the rpisoner. Never convicted before.
