1338. General Haldimand to Lord George Germain. A letter from camp at Sorel stating that information had come to hand that rebels had overrun the Illinois country, and all settlements along the Mississippi were in danger so officers at the posts in the upper country were warned. Had not been able to send an account of movements due to the lack of transport, however the fleet from Portsmouth had reached Quebec on 6 and 7 [September] under convoy.
