There are also statistics based on reports from shipbuilders of the gross tonnage of merchant ships under construction or on order and regional statistics of repairs, conversions, orders and ships under construction.

Records created in the Admiralty and subsequently passed to the Ministry of Transport when it assumed responsibilty for the collection of the statistics. The Department of Trade and Industry acquired the volumes because of its interest in the shipbuilding industry and specifically employment within it.
