Selected under Acquisition Policy criteria 2.2.1.2 and 2.2.1.3, documenting the work of the FCO in maintaining diplomatic relations relating to energy during the oil crisis of the mid-1970s.
The Energy Department was formed in 1974 as part of the FCO's response to the deepening energy crisis of that year. It took over responsibility for all energy matters from the Industry, Science and Energy Department. The Energy Department was absorbed in 1977 into a new Energy, Science and Space Department.
