The Director has a number of statutory duties which are often carried out on his behalf by members of the Collections Division. These include the statutory responsibility of examining applications for exemption from duty on imported sculpture; consultation on exports of works of art which fall within the scope of the collections; and advice on claims for exemption from estate duty on works of art of national significance.
