From 2004 Foreign and Commonwealth Office
From 1952 until 1970, the Pitcairn group of islands was administered by the Governor of Fiji, an arrangement that was terminated when Fiji became independent in October of that year. The non-resident post of Governor of the islands of Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno islands has been held since 1970 by the British high commissioners in New Zealand. The records of the governor's office are therefore created and managed by high commission staff.
