The Economics, Local and Road Transport Division was set up in 1977 within the Economics and Statistics Group of the Department of the Environment and Transport Common Services. It was responsible for the economic aspects of road transport. In 1985 the Division's functions were transferred to the Economics (Transport) Division of the Department of Transport. The file series ceased in 1991.
