Description (What the record is about)
-
Alienation Office entry books containing notes of writs of covenant purchased with the intention of conveying property by final concord in the Court of Common Pleas, in the infrequent cases where the value of the property was so low that no pre-fine was payable.
The books derived their name from the word 'nil' written in the margin beside each entry where otherwise the amount of the pre-fine would have been recorded.
There is no contemporary series of entry books for the issue of writs of covenant on which pre-fines were payable.
