Description

This series consists of a complete record of all the payable orders raised for the provision of goods and services by the Natural History Museum. Orders are listed numerically for each financial year, together with notes on the balances left in the different subhead accounts. There were 900 orders raised in 1886-1887, 1500 in 1930-1931, and over 3000 in 1974-1975.

Administrative / biographical background

The series was produced by a clerk in the Museum Secretary's office until 1931 when finance became the responsibility of Thomas Wooddisse, who was appointed as Accountant. In 1975 the finance became a Section in the newly formed Department of Administrative Services.
