This series consists of files relating to long-serving scientists and senior non-scientific staff, selected from the complete set of staff files kept by the Museum Secretary's Office, later the Personnel Section of the Department of Administrative Services.
The files typically contain papers relating to the individual's application, interview and appointment; matters relating to special leave, expeditions and conferences; progress and promotion reports; disciplinary matters; resignation or retirement; voluntary and part-time paid work after retirement; superannuation and other financial papers. Routine papers relating to annual and sick leave have been removed and destroyed.
Files in the series are complementary to the departmental personal files, which relate rather more to scientific than to administrative matters.
Series held at The Natural History Museum are catalogued more fully in its online catalogue (reference DF ADM/1005). Online descriptions of some individual records can also be viewed on Discovery, see DF 1005.
