Folios 13-14. 'A Copy Revised and Compared by J Hopwood'. Information of John Wood, butcher of Ashton under Lyne, Lancashire. Information against John Appleton. Wood and his brother (Joshua Wood) met Appleton at the Seven Stars inn in Manchester [Lancashire], by John Holm, landlord. Appleton convinced rebels [Jacobites] in Ashton not to take Wood's horses. Appleton talked with an elderly 'Scotch' rebel; said he liked 'the Prince' [Charles Edward Stuart] and was for 'that Religion' [Catholic]. Sworn before Justices of the Peace William Horton and Thomas Percival. Filed with:
1. 'A Copy Revised and Compared by J Hopwood'. Information of George Smith, chandler from Ashton under Lyne. Information against John Appleton. Saw Appleton leading rebels into town on 30 November 1745. They threatened inhabitants with swords and pistols when Henry Andrew, collier, shouted 'God Bless King George'. Taken before Percival. Dated at Royton [Lancashire].
