Folios 143-147. Information of Jane Comyns, wool comber and washerwoman from Taunton 'in Devonshire' [Somerset], now living in Lambeth Marsh [Surrey]. In November 1743, she and Mary Ingram saw arms at house of Henry Hoare, town clerk. Found pocketbook around Christmas [1743], containing treasonous letters addressed to Mr Manley, Mayor of Taunton. Imprisoned by Henry Baker in 'the Cow house', 'where Lewd Women are kept'. Transferred to Bridewell, where she was badly treated by gaoler Nathaniel Gardiner. Mr Manley and Mr Burford, an apothecary, warned her 'not to discover what she knew'. Released at Quarter Sessions, but imprisoned again after her father's death; bailed by Thomas Bird. Came to London in March [1745], but unable to deliver letters to Newcastle or King. Burford visited her and offered to buy the letters. Taken before Thomas Waite. Dated at Whitehall [Middlesex].
