Folios 24-25. Lieutenant General Wentworth to Newcastle. Concerning 'Rioters' in County Durham. Wentworth's aide-de-camp offered assistance to Sir William Williamson, (high sheriff) but 'Rioters' had already dispersed; [Duke of Cumberland] ordered Swiss commandant to help. 'Rioters' attacked 'mass house' and dwelling in Gateshead [County Durham] before Cumberland arrived. Wentworth blames trouble on 'pompous' newspaper reports of 'mass house' being pulled down at Stowsley [Stokesley, Yorkshire]. Requests replacements for ship guns removed from city walls. Also requests more spades and pickaxes, as all 'trenching tools' were sent to Scotland. Dated at Newcastle [Northumberland].
