Folios 22-23. E. Carleton to Captain Leeves at the Tennis Court Coffee House, Whitehall. Concerning deposition of Captain Moorey [Morey] against Mr Ibbotson and two men; all three are imprisoned in Hastings [Sussex]. Mayor of Hastings allowed Ibbotson to send a letter to his wife. Holding Moorey in custody. With copy of examination of Captain John Moorey of Arundel [Sussex], master of the Willing Mind, sloop owned by Abraham Ibbotson [farmer from Tortington, Sussex?]. Ibbotson convinced him to take a gentleman and his servant to Boulogne [France]. Storm forced them ashore at Eastbourne, Sussex. Gentleman said he intended to go to Lewes [Sussex]. Sworn before Thomas Holmes Tidy, Mayor of Arundel. Dated at Arundel, 1 February 1746.
