Description

Folio 13. Information of William Bliss, barber of Carlisle [Cumberland]. Account of rebel [Jacobite] siege and capture of Carlisle. When city surrendered, rebels imprisoned several aldermen and prevented inhabitants leaving without pass from Duke of Perth. Believes Joseph Backhouse (mayor) and John Pearson (town clerk) were forced to proclaim the Pretender [James Francis Edward Stuart]. Sworn before Richard Gilpin, recorder of Carlisle. Dated at Carlisle. Filed with:

1. Folio 14. Information of John Radford, bricklayer of Carlisle. Account of rebel activity in Carlisle. Believes Backhouse and Pearson were forced to proclaim Pretender. Sworn before William Tate, Justice of the Peace. Dated at Carlisle.
