Edward Smalley, curate of Standish [Lancashire], [to Duke of Newcastle], reporting that the [Jacobite] rebels are retreating through the village, after being persuaded of a 10,000-strong army at Northampton [Northamptonshire]. Describes Oliver Williams [alias Dudley Bradstreet] making contact with the rebels after leaving the Duke [of Cumberland's?] army in Litchfield [Staffordshire?]. Sent by express from Wigan [Lancashire], and dated at Standish.
