Earl Poulet [Poulett] [to Duke of Newcastle], concerning reluctance of people in Taunton [Somerset] to join the militia, who, instead, sent 'a paper kite with a long tail of names, a thing to amuse the mob, and which hangs but by a pack thread'. Is attending a [recruitment?] meeting in Bridgewater [Somerset] tomorrow. Adds that Lord Ilchester is ill; Mr Speke, too, and gone to Bath [Somerset]. Dated at Hinton [House, Hinton St George, Somerset].
