Description

Folio 131. Viscount Lonsdale to Duke of Newcastle, forwarding intelligence from Carlisle [Cumberland] noting that the [Jacobite] rebels appear to be divided. Dated at Byram [Yorkshire]. Enclosing:

Folio 132. [Unknown to unknown]. Full text: 'The Highlanders will be here tomorrow so send me no bags or letters till I write you'. Dated at Dumfries [Dumfriesshire], 5 November 1745.

Folio 133. From G B [George Bell?] [to unknown] with intelligence from Moffat [Dumfriesshire] detailing the march of Highlanders, led by the Duke of Perth, Lord George Murray and Lord Kilmarnock. Dated at Dumfries, 5 November 1745.

SP36/73/2/1. Bryce Blair [provost of Annan, Dumfriesshire], to mayor of Carlisle advising of a rebel quartermaster in Moffat making preparations. Dated at Annan, 5 November [1745].

SP36/73/2/2. Copies of above from G B and Blair.

SP36/73/2/3-4. Intelligence from Moffat, reporting the rebels search for oatmeal. Mentions Dalkeith [Midlothian], Peebles [Peeblesshire], and David Smith and 'one Henderson' of Moffat. Dated at Moffat.
