Description

Folios 71-76. Folio 71. De-ciphered copy of letter from [Jacobite Colonel] D [Daniel] O'Bryen [O'Brien] to [Charles Edward Stuart], stating that the Countess and Baron report everything would be in place for the English expedition before the end of December, and the 'Prince of Wales' should make arrangements. Enclosed in Sir Everard Fawkener's letter of 10 May 1746 [not filed here]. Dated at Paris [France]. Enclosing: Folios 72-73. Letter in cipher from Henry [Benedict Stuart] to [Charles Edward Stuart]. Enclosed in Sir Everard Fawkener's letter [not filed here]. Dated at Bagneux [France]. Folios 74-75 De-ciphered copy of above Henry [Benedict Stuart] to [Charles Edward Stuart], stating that the King of France [Louis VX] was 'absolutely resolved upon the expedition into England' by 20 December 1745 NS [9 December 1745 OS], and he'd had assurances from the [foreign secretary] Marquis d'Argenson and his brother [Comte d'Argenson]. Mentions Kelly and Gordon. Dated at Bagneux. Folio 76. Alternative de-ciphered copy of above letter, stating that it was [not King Louis XIV of France but] 'Sullivan' [a code-name for Louis?] who was resolved on the expedition to England. Also mentions Obryan [Colonel Daniel O'Brien]. 1745 Nov 26, NS [1745 Nov 15, OS]
