Description

Folios 78-84.

Folios 78-79. Viscount Lonsdale [to Duke of Newcastle], with intelligence from Carlisle [Cumberland][on Jacobite rebel movements], with rebel officers on Stanwix Bank, and the?Atole militia of Cumberland and Westmoreland in garrison. Dated at Byram [Yorkshire]. Confirmed by intelligence from Penrith [Cumberland]. Enclosing:

Folio 80. [From unknown] reporting that 'Highland officers' were seeking billets for 5,000 foot and 1,000 horse, and that 'there is not a highlander in Edinburgh'. Dated at Dumfries [Dumfriesshire], 8 November [1745].

Folio 81. Thos [Thomas] Pattinson reporting rebels at Lockerbie [Dumfriesshire] witnessed by a party of Light Horse under Lieutenant John Kilpatrick. Prisoner, Mr Brand, taken and sent to General Wade. Eden crossed at Breamond. Rebels at Longtown [Cumberland]. Dated at Carlisle, 9 November [1745].

Folio 82. B B [Bryce Blair, Provost of Annan, Dumfriesshire], reporting Jacobite rebels asking for the provost of Dumfries; 2,000 men at 'Carse of Kinell' near Dumfries; rebels at Moffat [Dumfriesshire] marching to Dumfries; rebels due Lockerbie [Dumfriesshire], 20 pack-horses arrived, and horses seized from Sir John Douglass, Mr Johnston, and sought at Hoddom Castle [Dumfriesshire].

Folios 83-84. B [Bryce] Blair to the mayor of Carlisle, reporting rebels lodged in Moffat; horses seized; three mounted Highlanders lodged at Lockerbie. Dated at Boldness [Bowness-on-Solway, Cumbria?].
