Folio 76. Sir Henry Hoghton [to unknown], reporting that his regiment will rendezvous at Preston [Lancashire] and march to Manchester [Lancashire], as they can do nothing [to resist the Jacobite rebels]. Says he has written to Lord Derby expressing the hope that militia would be raised and 'ordered to keep together and retire until the army comes'. Enclosing:
Folio 77. Francis Hewitt, mayor of Carlisle [Cumberland], to Wm [William] Gillison, reporting the capture of a rebel prisoner at Eckafeign [Ecclefechan, Dumfriesshire], and his despatch to [General] Wade. Also reports rebels at Rockcliffe [Cumberland], King's Moor [Cumberland], and Dumfries [Dumfriesshire]. Wax seals. Dated at Carlisle.
