Folios 18-19. Information of John Philips [Phillips], living at the Angel Inn near St Clement's Church [London], against Giles Jones, a surgeon at Bath [Somerset]. Jones tried to enlist Phillips in Rome [Italy] for the service of the 'Pretender' [James Edward Francis Stuart], offering him a captaincy in the future expedition. Along with [Nathaniel Elliot, alias] Sheldon and [Robert] Gordon, 'two Popish Priests', Jones arranged for Philips to meet 'the Pretender's eldest son' [Charles Edward Stuart] in the gardens of the Palace of Borghese, where he confirmed Jones' offer. Witnessed by E [Edward?] Weston. Dated at Whitehall [London, Middlesex].
