The Informations Systems Committee was set up in 1989 to carry on the activities of the Computer Board, which had been wound up following the establishment of the Universities Funding Council. The Committee's remit was broadly similar to that of the Computer Board in that it provided grants to enable universities to purchase large scale mainframe computers and give advice on their procurement. In 1993 ISC was wound up and was succeeded by the Joint Information Systems Committee.
