The series consists almost entirely of a collection of the research notes and drafts of Isabella Gordon (1901-1988), who was head of the Crustacea Section from her appointment in 1928 until she retired in 1966. It includes field notes and sketches, notes and rough drafts of papers on crabs and lobsters, and more general, background notes. There are also the files she prepared while writing the obituaries of her co-workers. Included in the collection is the manuscript of an important paper that she wrote in 1925, while at Imperial College, London, and one dating from her retirement.
Series held at The Natural History Museum are catalogued more fully in its online catalogue . Online descriptions of some individual records can also be viewed on Discovery, see DF 256.
Arrangement of the series is broadly chronological. The papers, which are neatly written and labelled, were arranged by R W Ingle, Dr Gordon's successor as Head of Section.
