Railfreight Distribution was formed in October 1988 by the merger of Speedlink Distribution, Railfreight International and Freightliners Ltd. In 1991, under the Organising for Quality reforms, it became a separate business from Trainload Freight. The Speedlink service was withdrawn in July 1991 leaving Railfreight Distribution with the core business of Channel Tunnel and deep-sea container traffic. It was privatised in 1997.
