Folio(s) 490. Enclosure in the letter of 8 September from William Stephen Poyntz [of Cowdray Park, Midhurst, Sussex,] setting out copies of two letters passed to Poyntz by Mr Paine, foreman of Iping Paper Mill.
The first is a covering letter of 2 September to Mr Mullard of Iping Mill from Sickle Mill, Haslemere, passing on a missive sent initially to Guildford [Surrey] and from thence to Haslemere.
The second is a letter, unsigned and unaddressed, dated Neckinger 20 August 1801, asking for money to be raised in the recipient's division and for the letter to be passed to Haslemere and Iping. The writer reports that workers in the [papermaking] trade at Maidstone [Kent] had been receptive to the articles of the association on his visit there. Manchester and Wells approved of 'our plan' and reckoned on establishing it in every mill in England.
