Folio(s) 473-476. Letter from Walter Borrowes, Austin Friars, [London], forwarding a letter from Rob Donovan regarding his brother, for some time confined at Revett's, and speaking well of Rob Donovan's character.
Enclosed is a letter of 8 September to Borrowes from Rob Donovan offering information with regard to his brother John. John, having decided to emigrate to America to find work as a lawyer and having obtained the necessary licence to leave Ireland, booked passage on the American ship Albany. The ship was captured by a privateer off Newfoundland and taken to Bordeaux where he was detained. Having been robbed of all his possessions and not having any connections in America, he is unable to satisfy the government's requirements to be able to leave the country for America. If the government would permit his return to Ireland, Rob Donovan, a solicitor with an established practice, would take him under his wing and give security for his good behaviour.
