Folio(s) 454-456. Letter from Robert Tennent in London on behalf of his brother [William Tennent], a State Prisoner at Fort George [Inverness-shire] for four years with no suggestion of yet coming to trial. His brother's health was deteriorating and he proposes that, after allowing a few months to settle his affairs, his brother be allowed to exile himself voluntarily with sufficient bail to ensure that he would not pass into an enemy's country or return during the war. Robert Tennent notes that, before his arrest, his brother had paid duties and taxes exceeding ten thousand pounds every year. If the Government deemed it expedient, in addition to having a respectable bondsman, he himself was prepared to remain as a hostage while his brother made his arrangements.
