Administrative / biographical background

The first British Council office in Ecuador was opened in 1942 and closed in 1947. An office was established again in 1978, and remained open until July 2001, from which time limited Council services were offered through a cultural attache at the embassy in Quito while the Council office in Columbia dealt with the provision of cultural and educational links to Ecuador.
