Folios 82 - 83. Petition of condemned [Jacobite rebel] John James Jellens [Jean Jacques Jelens] under sentence of death at the castle of York [Yorkshire]. One witness says he was seen in Penrith [Cumberland] with rebels and captured with them in Lauder Hall [Lowther Hall, Westmoreland?]. Other witnesses question whether or not he was armed and is able to speak English. Jellens claims he is a subject of the king of France and has only been doing his duty by supporting the Pretender [James Francis Edward Stuart] after being dismissed by his late master, an aide-de-camp of the Lieutenant General of Schwarzenberg.
