Minutes of the Cabinet, attended by Lord Chancellor [Lord Hardwicke], the Earl of Harrington, [Henry] Pelham, and the Duke of Newcastle, with [Philip Carteret] Webb called in to discuss the cases of condemned [Jacobite] rebels due to be executed at Brampton [Cumberland] and Penrith [Cumberland]. Thirteen to 'be left to the Law': Peter Taylor; John Robotham; Stephen Fitzgerald; Philip Hunt; Michael Dellard; Andrew Swan; James Innes; David Home; Peter Lindsay; James Harvey; Thomas Park; Valentine Holt; Robert Lyon. Four to be recommended for mercy: James Forbes; Alexander Hutchinson; Alexander Anderson; James Campbell [alias] MacGregor. Three cases of special circumstance: Robert Randal, for surrendering to Lieutenant General [Roger] Handasyde; Richard Morrison, 'the Pretender's valet de Chambre' to be taken to London for examination; and a claim by Ronald MacDonald that he was promised mercy by the Duke of Cumberland should be verified.
