Folios 31 and 34. Petition of James Mavor to the Duke of Newcastle, on behalf of his father William Mavor, a [Jacobite] prisoner in the New Gaol at Southwark [Surrey], requesting his father be released or moved to more comfortable confinement until his trial, as he is in poor health. Enclosing:
Folio 32. Petition of William Mavor, merchant from Turriff [Aberdeenshire], [Jacobite] prisoner in Tilbury Fort [Essex], claiming he was maliciously accused by James Paterson of intercepting letters from the Laird of Grant to Norman McLeod and Captain Monroe for the rebels in Inverury [Inverurie, Aberdeenshire]. In support of this claim he refers to declarations, by William Horn and Alexdr [Alexander] Adam, which are attested to by William Miln, minister of Inverkeithny [Banffshire].
Folio 33. Declaration of Andrew Ker, Minister of the Gospel at Turriff. States that he believes William Mavor to be innocent of the charges against him, having thoroughly investigated his conduct during the [Jacobite] rebellion. Dated at Turriff.
