Description

Folio 22. Petition for mercy from William Sharp on account of his youth and good character, stating that did not bear arms for the [Jacobite] rebels, was only briefly with them before being taken prisoner, and pleaded guilty on his arraignment. Filed with:

Folio 23. Certificate in favour of Sharp from Principal and masters of St Leonard's College of St Andrews University [Fife], signed by: Thomas Tullideph, John Craigie, Hen [Henry] Rymer, David Young, Ninian Young. Dated 18 August 1746 at St Andrews.

Folio 24. Affidavit of Helen Campbell, midwife in St Andrews, swearing that she delivered William Sharp on 28 January 1729, and naming his father as Alexander, son of Sir William Sharp of Stonehill, and his mother as Margaret, daughter of Philip Hamilton of Killbrackmont [Fife]. Witnessed by David Monypenny and Maurice Trent, both Justices of the Peace for Fife. Seals attached. Dated 2 October 1746 at St Andrews.

Folio 25. Affidavit of Doctor Thomas Simson [Simpson], Chandos Professor of Medicine and Anatomy at St Andrews University, swearing that he was present at the birth of William Sharp on 28 January 1729, and naming his parents. Witnessed by David Monypenny and Maurice Trent. Seals attached. Dated 2 October 1746 at St Andrews.
