Folio 18. Petition to the Duke of Newcastle from William McIntosh, formerly a chapman of Inverness [Inverness-shire], now a prisoner [and suspected Jacobite]. Claims he was imprisoned only on the word of a servant of?Cotd. [?Lieutenant Colonel] Martyn, as revenge; some years previous he brought legal action against Martyn for beating him, and was awarded £300 damages. Adds that the clergy and inhabitants of Inverness will attest to his innocence, and that he is suffering from illness due to his confinement. Dated on board the James and Mary prisoner transport on the River Thames.
