Description

Folio 82-93. Philip Carteret Webb to the Duke of Newcastle, outlining the documents sent with the letter, and stating that Edward Gibson is to be brought to London as a witness [in Jacobite trials] by Mr Carrington. Dated at York [Yorkshire]. Enclosing:

Folios 83 - 84. List of 8 [Jacobite] prisoners tried at Carlisle, indicating any circumstances in favour of, or against them being made objects of the King's mercy. Their names are: Roger Fulthorpe, recruited by 'Siddal the barber of Manchester [Lancashire]'; Hugh Roy; James Chaddock; Robert Murray; Henry Clerk; Andrew Poiteous; Lawrence Mercer; William Sharp.

Folio 85. List of the 10 rebel prisoners at Carlisle on whom the lot fell for trial: James Mitchel, John Forrest; John McEwan; Duncan Neish; Alexander Ritchie; Angus Campbell; John McGregor; John Constable; Alexander Cameron; William Elliott.

Folios 86 - 87. Letter from John Walkinshaw to George Hamilton, a relative of his wife concerning his imprisonment [as a Jacobite] in York [Yorkshire] for high treason. Also described the execution of Lord Balmerino in the Tower [of London, London], and mentioning E_b_h, [Lord] Rothes and Sir Charles Leslie who are in Flanders, and [Lord Queensbury]. Dated at London on 26 August 1746.
