J T [?James Taylor, a Roman Catholic priest] of Caithness, now a prisoner, to James Ferguson, Limner, at the White Periwig, next door to the Golden Ball, Great Poultry Street, Golden Square, [London], [intercepted and sent to Duke of Newcastle instead]. States that he played no part in the [Jacobite] troubles, didn't alter his 'common way of praying', and describes his declining health in captivity. Mentions Sir James Steuart [Stuart, Stewart] of Burray [Orkney Islands]; Mr James Stuart purser of the [vessel] Elizabeth; Captain Lawrence, from India, at the Three Kings Court, Lombard Street [London]; Mr Law in New Gaol [Southwark, Surrey]; 'your Great Friend Mr?P_tr'; and Captain [Stratford] Eyre. Dated 'on board the Pamela transport lying off Tilbury Fort [Essex].
