Folio 77. Brigadier Jam [James] Fleming to the Duke of Newcastle, describing measures taken to prevent the escape of rebel [Jacobite] prisoners under sentence of death at Carlisle [Cumberland]. Writes that his men have already prevented at least one escape attempt. Assures there are enough sentries and mounted guards at the castle to make escape 'next to impossible'. Dated at Carlisle.
