Folio 20. Affidavit of Alex [Alexander] Vere, son of Captain Daniel Vere, late of Stonebyres, Lanarkshire, in favour of two prisoners now in New Gaol, Southwark Surrey, charged with High Treason, Roderick McCulloch, officer in the Rebel [Jacobite] army, and John Gray, officer in the French Service in John Drummond's Regiment. Vere, a surgeon, was taken prisoner by the rebels at the battle of Falkirk, but McCulloch and Gray helped him escape. Witnessed by John Philp [Philip?] of Greenlaw [Mains, Midlothian?], Justice of the Peace for Edinburgh. Dated at Edinburgh.
