Earl of Home to [unknown], accompanying an application for mercy from 'some Gentlemen of Fortune and Interest in Berwickshire... whose assistance will be very necessary next election' on behalf of two [Jacobite suspects, David Home and William Home]. William is a boy of 14 and already recommended to the King's mercy, and David is 'a man of no manner of consequence and so blind that I don't really think he could distinguish a man from a horse at two yards distance'. Dated at London. Enclosing:
