Description

Folio 139. Petition from Wm [William] Wreathocke [alias William White], merchant, late of Campveer, Zealand, [Dutch Republic] to the Duke of Newcastle, seeking a Royal pardon in respect of a conviction for highway robbery in the light of his service to the Crown in despatching intelligence back to London, and his health and personal circumstances. Encloses schedule of correspondence, as below in folio 140. [Inferred date of petition: 12-18 September 1746]. Filed with:

Folio 140. Schedule of 7 letters, dated during 1745 & 1746, containing intelligence of ships, men and arms, mentioning Mr Howard of Campveer, De Vat, De'Clerk, Brewer, Steward, Monsieur Savoige of the Admiralty in Ostend, Irishman and burgher master McKay, 'some great man' landed by Captain Bettey and Mr Kelly, 'the Pretender's Youngest son' [Henry Benedict Stuart] at Boulogne [France] and at Madam Harvey's in Dunkirk [France], the regiments of Lally, Ruth and Lord FitzJames and the Irish Brigade. Other places named: Rye Bay [Sussex], Montress, Flushing [Vlissingen, Dutch Republic], Blankenburgh [Blankenberge, Dutch Republic], Dam near Bruges [France], Sluice. Ships named: Bourbon and Charity.
