Folio 111. Petition for royal clemency by Laurence [Lawrence] Mercer, of Lethinde [Lethendy, Perthshire], son of late Sir Laurence Mercer of Aldie, citing youth and the poor influence of guardians [at the time of the Jacobite Rebellion]. Filed with:
Folio 112. Affidavit sworn by James Andersone, of Lethinty saying he witnessed certificates in Mercer's favour signed by George Freer Minister of Lethindy, and Charles Balfour, Thomas Finwick [Finnick], William Shepherd, James Mitchel and James Baxter, elders. Dated at Carlisle [Cumberland].
Folio 113. Motion by the minister and elders of Lethendy, [Lethinty, Lethinty] in favour of Mercer, stating that they had made inquiries of his tenants and servants, all of whom insisted they knew nothing of Mercer being involved with the [Jacobite] Rebellion or encouraged others to take part in it. Dated at Lethendy.
Folio 114. Affidavit sworn by James Andersone saying he witnessed a certificate in Mercer's favour signed by James Faichney, Minister of St Martin's, Perthshire. Dated at Carlisle.
Folio 115. Certificate sworn by James Faichney in Mercer's favour, asserting that none of his tenants and servants was involved in the [Jacobite] Rebellion. Dated at St Martins, 12 August 1746.
Folio 116. Affidavit sworn by John Mustard and John Sountar of Lethinty that Laurence Mercer was 'reputed to be about nineteen years of age'. Dated at Carlisle.
Folio 117. Affidavit sworn by Thomas Duncan of Melginch, [Meginch, Megginch, St Martin's], Perthshire, that he witnessed the signature of Laurence [Lawrence] Dinwoodie on a certificate in Mercer's favour. Dated at Carlisle [Cumberland].
Folio 118. Certificate of Lawrence [Laurence] Dinwoodie, merchant and late provost of Glasgow [Lanarkshire], stating that Mercer lodged with him when the [Jacobite] rebels were quartered in the city, recalling Mercer's opposition to the 'illegal exactions' taken by them. Dated at Glasgow [Lanarkshire], on 3 September 1746.
