Folio 59. Affidavit in favour of Valentine Holt, apprentice cloth-worker, aged 18, sworn by Elizabeth Holt, spinster, of Rochdale [Lancashire], saying she, Valentine, 'and many thousands of inhabitants of Rochdale and the county adjacent' had gone to Manchester [Lancashire] out of curiosity to see the [Jacobite] rebels. William Lomax, foreman of cloth-workers' shop, and three Highlanders then forced Holt into service. Dated at Carlisle [Cumberland].
