Folio 89. Jn [John] Sharpe to [Thomas] Ramsden, with contents for the attention of [Duke of Newcastle]. Enclosing:
Folios 90-92. Extract of letter from [crown solicitor] Philip Carteret Webb to John Sharpe. States opinion that if 'prisoners who have escaped on the Lotts' were transported most would quickly return, as happened in 1716. Suggests making such return a felony and 'marking them in the face with a Hot Iron'. Lists prisoners detained at Carlisle [Cumberland] on suspicion of Treason, who could be discharged absolutely or on bail, naming David Campbell, Henry Salkeld, Doctor James Douglas, Francis Hewett, John Graham apothecary, William James, Thomas Harrison. Dated at Carlisle, 4 September 1746.
