Description

Folio 85-86. Examinations concerning Patrick Edmonstone of Newton. James Black, Samuel Warr, Nicholas Reed, and James Wood, were soldier taken prisoner by [Jacobite] rebels] at Falkirk [Stirlingshire], and taken to Doun [Doune, Stirlingshire], where Edmonstone attempted to 'enlist them for the Pretender's son'. James Sharp and John Mitchell, merchant of Doun, swear that when [Prince Charles Edward] was in Dunblain [Dunblane] Newton was wearing a white cockade. Mentions servant James Bruce; [Charles Edward Stuart] staying at Balhady's house [Balhaldie House] in Dunblain [Dunblane, Perthshire]; and Colonel Conaway's [Conway] regiment. Statements taken by Archibald Campbell, aid de camp to General Bland, and James Paterson, sheriff deputy of Stirling. Dated at Stirling.
