Folio 72. Jn [John] Sharpe to Andrew Stone with a petition from Doctor Barry, a prisoner in Newgate [London] rejecting Barry's claims concerning his leg irons, and noting that he had 'received all the civilities' from the keeper of Newgate, [Richard] Akerman. Enclosing:
Folio 73-75. Petition of Doctor Peter Barry to the Duke Newcastle, complaining of the 'mortifying weight of his chains' and noting the indigence his family faces on account of his detention. Seeks removal of irons, and bail. Dated at Newgate Gaol.
