Folio 65. Petition of James Dods, farmer on land near Preston [Prestonpans, East Lothian] battlefield, now a prisoner in Tilbury Fort [Essex] awaiting transportation without trial, describing his capture by [Jacobite] rebels on their march into England. Refers to an affidavit made in his favour by George Buchan of Kelloe JP, an attestation made by his parish minister William Robertson, and evidence from a crown witness John Drummond, concerning statements made to 'the person called the Duke of Perth'. Enclosing:
Folio 66. Attestation made by William Robertson, Minister of Gladsmuir, East Lothian, in favour of James Dods, a tenant [farmer] in 'Seton Hill Mains' [Seton Mains], East Lothian, and now a prisoner in Tilbury Fort [Essex]. Vouches for Dods' good character, his attendance in the established church, and hearsay evidence that he never joined the rebels. Dated at Gladsmuir.
